Arjuna Ranathunga attends to “CRANS MONTANA FORUM”

Hon. Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranathunga left Sri Lanka, in the morning, today [16] to attend the International CRANS MONTANA FORUM. This forum will be held from 16-21 of March 2017 in Dakhla [Morocco]. The theme of this forum is “towards a new Africa for the 21st Century”. Hon .Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranathunga is addressing this forum on the topic “Port Development Policies and Projects” in Sri Lanka.

The CRANS MONTANA FORUM is a Swiss Non-Governmental International Organization. It also works to promote best practices and to ensure a permanent dialogue between all those who handle high level responsibilities. The first annual Crans Montana Forum was held in 1990. In this session of this forum a special attention will be paid on development of Africa and small islands in the African region.

Africa is a developing economy in the 21st Century. There by discussions will be held in this session on the topics Agriculture and food security in Africa, The Integration of Women in the Political and Economic Framework, Small Islands Developing States, Opening Emerging Societies to the Young Generations, Energy production and Supply for Emerging Economies, Africa and the SIDS in the New World Maritime Economy. Discussions on the title Africa and the SIDS in the New World Maritime Economy will be held on 19 of March. This programme will be carried out on the topics the Maritime Space is the main driver for economic development and Progress in Africa and the SIDS, National Economic Development requires everywhere an interconnection and an optimization of internal secure corridors, The challenges for African Countries to fight against Maritime Piracy: focus on the Gulf of Guinea, Emerging Economies suffer: the terms of Maritime Economy are too much fluctuant and unpredictable, How to conciliate National priorities and needs of the countries with the requirements of the world major ship owners?, The role of Africa and the SIDS in the structural change of the Maritime Industry. Hon. Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranathunga is addressing this programme on Maritime industry.
