Wickrama
has
been
appointed
acting
Chairman
of
the
SLPA
by
Port,
Aviation,
Irrigation
and
Water
Management
Minister
Chamal
Rajapaksa
with
effect
from
September
2
following
the
resignation
of
Saliya
Wickramasuriya
due
to
personal
reasons.
Wickrama
joined
the
Ports
Authority
as a
mechanical
engineer.
He
has
been
designated
as
Director,
Southern
Port
Development
of a
new
Sea
Port
in
Hambantota.
Wickrama
has
completed
PhD
in
Port
Management
(UK)
and
also
a
BSc.
Engineering
(Hons)
Graduate
of
the
University
of
Moratuwa.
He
holds
a
postgraduate
Diploma
in
Energy
Technology.
Wickrama
is a
Corporate
Member
of
the
Institute
of
Engineers
Sri
Lanka
(C.Eng.
MIE
(SL)).
Wickrama
functioned
as
the
Executive
Director
(Technical
and
Human
Resource
Development)
and
as
the
Managing
Director
prior
to
his
appointment
as
the
Vice
Chairman.
He
is
the
Chief
Executive
Officer
of
the
Sri
Lanka
Ports
Management
and
Consultancy
Services
Ltd.Wickrama
is
one
of
the
Committee
Members
in
IESL
Council
Committee
from
2006
to
2008
and
also
functions
as a
Committee
Member
of
the
Planning
and
Development
Committee
of
the
International
Association
of
Ports
and
Harbours
(IAPH)
which
has
developed
into
a
global
alliance
of
ports
representing
230
Ports
in
about
90
countries
handling
over
60
per
cent
of
the
world
container
traffic
under
the
motto
“World
Peace
through
World
Trade
-
World
Trade
through
World
Ports”.
