President Mahinda Rajapaksa
made an inspection tour of
Ruhunu Magampura Mahinda
Rajapaksa Port yesterday. He
inspected the construction
of port’s second stage which
consists of six terminals.
All facilities are being
built at the port premises
to meet the needs of local
and foreign investors. The
government has planned to
implement the second stage
of the port as a mega
project.
Plans have already been made
to construct cargo and oil
storage terminals. The area
which was earmarked for the
parking of imported vehicles
also came under the
inspection of the President.
It has been estimated that
US$ 808 million will be
spent on the construction of
the second phase of the
project.

details of the construction
work to the President. Ports
and Highways Deputy Minister
Rohitha Abeygunawardena,
Chinese Ambassador in Sri
Lanka Yang Ziuping,
parliamentarians Namal
Rajapaksa and V. K. Indika
accompanied the President.
