SCI Mumbai makes maiden call at JCT  
 

 

The 4400 TEU vessel SCI Mumbai that belongs to the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), the national carrier of India,  made its maiden call at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently.

SCI's container vessels have been calling the Port of Colombo since 1994 and currently SCI operates three main services to Colombo, namely, ISE service to Europe, INDFEX service to Far East and SMILE service to Gulf.  

SCI is also an exclusive customer of JCT of SLPA having a TSA and have handled a volume of 90199 TEUS at JCT last year (2007).  

To mark the occasion of the maiden call of this latest vessel SCI Mumbai at JCT, a plaque exchange was also held on board the vessel between the ship's captain and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Mr. Ranjith De Silva. Managing Director of SLPA, Capt. Nihal Keppetipola, Director (Operations) Mr. U.Bopitiya, Mr. Prasanna Karunathilake - General Manager of the Asha Agencies (Local Agents of SCI in Sri Lanka) were also present at the occasion.
